Boaventura De Sousa Santos

Boaventura de Sousa Santos is Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Coimbra and Distinguished Jurist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned an LL.M and J.S.D. from Yale University and an Honorary Doctorate from McGill University. He directed the Center for Social Studies in Coimbra and is a prolific author on globalization, sociology of law, epistemology, social movements and the World Social Forum, with works translated into multiple languages. ​

 

Her recent project, ALICE, funded by a prestigious European Research Council grant, seeks new ways to share global experiences. He has received various awards, including the Frantz Fanon Lifetime Achievement 2022 and the Mexico Science and Technology Prize 2010. Among his numerous books are "El Derecho y las Epistemologies del Sur", "Decolonising the University" and "The Challenge of the deep cognitive justice". Learn about his professional career
