Testimony of my experience as a CES doctoral student

I entered the PhD programme in "Pós-Colonialismos e Cidadania Global", at the Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES) and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra (FEUC), in the academic year 2015-2016, with a national grant from the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). I greatly value the possibility I had to pursue my studies and develop my thesis in the academic environment provided by the CES. The relationships I established with the different people who worked there were characterised by being very respectful and professional. I always received very complete information and support to guide my work as a doctoral student, both in academic, logistical and administrative matters.

From the time I entered the programme until my thesis defence, I maintained a very cordial relationship with Professor Boaventura de Sousa Santos as one of my counsellors. Although he was in high demand during his stays in Coimbra, he was always very accessible and dedicated during the face-to-face orientation meetings we had at the CES. Communication via email was also very fluid in relation to operational issues during the fieldwork. Thanks to a way of relating that balanced professionalism and human quality, I felt well accompanied and confident during the different stages of the academic journey. I appreciated the cordiality and simplicity of Professor Boaventura's manner as much as the intellectual stimulation of his lectures.
